FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As Carrot is a unique offering, we tend to generate a lot of questions. We’ve tried to answer the most common ones here. Please have a look and Contact Us if you have additional questions.

GENERAL FAQ
Carrot is a company formation fund. Rather than fund existing companies, Carrot forms and finances new AgTech companies.
Since the Carrot solution is so different from other venture capital models, people tend to struggle to understand what Carrot is, who it is for and how it works.
The easiest way to understand Carrot is to read our eBook and visit our How it Works page.
The most common reasons why IP owners need a third option for commercializing their technology are that:
- Inventors don’t want to take on the role of start-up CEO, and
- Corporations are unable or unwilling to provide the necessary resources their technology deserves.

FOR RESEARCHERS & IP OWNERS
Rather than commercialize your technology yourself or start a new venture on your own, you let Carrot take your innovation to market for you. You become a founding shareholder in a new company alongside Carrot and a CEO recruited to commercialize your technology.
We focus on AgTech. We will evaluate a wide range of innovative and scalable technologies connected to the production, manufacturing, logistics and distribution of food and agricultural products.
We look for technologies where proof of concept has been established, and where revenues can be generated within about 2 years.
- Ideally, the technology has been demonstrated to work in a target market application (established proof of concept).
- Capital intensive technologies and those with a long regulatory pathway are excluded.
- We exclude technologies related to cannabis production.
No. We are happy to consider technology developed anywhere, but the companies we form must be headquartered in Canada, and there must be some relevance to the Canadian agricultural sector. If you think we might be a fit, we encourage you to Express Interest in our solution.

FOR EXISTING COMPANY OWNERS
No. We focus exclusively on starting new AgTech companies, which we then finance.
If you have IP assets which are not getting the support they deserve (perhaps they’re not core to the business, or they don’t meet ROI or timeline thresholds), or if you’re struggling to secure financing, Carrot is an alternative to consider.
If there is a fit, we would set up a new company around your technology and recruit a professional CEO to lead the new venture.

FOR INTERESTED CEOs
The opportunity is to be the Founder-CEO of a new company based on vetted technology, with a built-in lead investor.
The “carrot” is the potential for significant financial and personal success.
For each new venture, Carrot recruits a CEO to become the founder. This person needs to develop the business and financial plan, raise capital, build a management team and generally lead the opportunity through commercial success to an eventual exit.
The specific criteria will be matched to each technology, but in each case we’re looking for experienced leaders with a track record of success and credentials that investors will value.
If this sounds like you, or if you have line of sight to technology that you’d like to commercialize, Contact Us to see if we can partner to get a new company formed and launched, with you as the Founder-CEO.

FOR INVESTORS
We’ve done the work to create solid investment opportunities for you.
While each new company we start is different, our criteria and approach are the same. We’re in the business of starting new AgTech companies with all the ingredients for successful market entry within around two years of company formation.
